Privacy Policy

The short version: what you follow and what you watch lives on your device and in your own private iCloud, where we can't see it. Two things do leave: the lists you deliberately share with friends, and anonymous usage statistics. Both are described below, and there is nothing else.
1. Who we are
Reelog ("the app", "we", "us") is an iPhone and iPad app made by Dimitri Giani, an independent developer based in Italy. There is no company behind it, no investors and no advertising business. You can reach us at any time at dimix@dimix.it.
Reelog has no sign-up. You never give us an email address, a password or a name.
2. What stays on your device
Everything you build up in Reelog is stored on your device:
- The actors and directors you follow
- The series and films you track, follow or have watched
- Which episodes you've marked as watched
- Your star ratings
- Your watchlist
- Your watch schedules and reminder times
- Your notification and streaming service preferences, and your content language
If iCloud is on, that data is also kept in the private part of your own iCloud account, so it appears on your other devices. Private means exactly that: it sits in your Apple account, Apple handles the syncing, and we have no way to read it. You can turn iCloud off for Reelog in your device settings at any point.
3. What leaves your device
3.1 Requests to TMDB
Titles, release dates, synopses, cast, crew, ratings and artwork come from TMDB. When you search, open a title or a person, or when the app refreshes in the background, Reelog asks TMDB for that information over HTTPS. Those requests carry the search text or the id of the title, the language you read in and your country for streaming availability. They carry no name, no account and no identifier of you. TMDB's own policy is at themoviedb.org/privacy-policy.
3.2 My Crew, if you use it
Sharing lists with friends is the one feature that publishes anything. It is part of the one-time purchase, and if you never open My Crew, nothing described here happens.
When you do use it, Reelog writes to the app's shared iCloud database:
- A display name. It starts as "User" and is whatever you type in its place - your real name is not taken from your Apple account
- The invite codes you generate, and when they expire
- The link between you and the people who accepted your invite
- The contents of the lists you chose to share, as title identifiers
Be aware of what that area is: it is a database shared by everyone using Reelog, and while the app only ever shows your lists to people holding an invite from you, the records themselves are not encrypted for a particular friend. Treat anything you share, the display name included, as something other Reelog users could in principle read. Don't put a phone number or an address in that name field.
You decide which lists to share and with whom, and you can stop sharing whenever you want, which removes the connection and the shared copy of your lists.
3.3 Usage statistics
To know which parts of the app are actually used and where it breaks, Reelog sends usage data to our own server at tracker.dimix.it. No third-party analytics company, no advertising network, nothing sold to anyone. What is sent:
- A random identifier created on first launch. It is a random number, not derived from your device or your Apple account; it is kept in your iCloud so your own devices count as one person
- Which screens you open
- Two actions: adding something to your watchlist and marking something as watched
- Whether the one-time purchase is active, and a confirmation when a purchase completes
- The app version, and the device model and iOS version
We cannot work out who you are from it, and we don't try. If you would rather send nothing at all, turn off Settings › Privacy › Usage Statistics in the app: from that moment nothing more is sent, and on the next launch the tracker isn't even started. To have what was already collected deleted, write to dimix@dimix.it.
3.4 Apple
The one-time purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details - only whether the purchase is valid. Downloads, crashes and any data Apple collects through the App Store are governed by Apple's privacy policy.
4. What Reelog never collects
- Your name, email address or phone number
- Your contacts, calendar or photos
- Your location
- The advertising identifier (IDFA), and no ad or tracking SDKs of any kind
- A profile of your taste for advertising, or anything sold or shared with data brokers
5. Notifications
All notifications are built on your device from data Reelog has already fetched; nothing is pushed from a server of ours. There are two kinds: news and release days for the people you follow, and new episode alerts plus watch reminders for your series, which come with Watch Schedule. You can turn either off in the app, and all of them in your device settings.
6. Keeping it safe
- Your library is on your device and in your private iCloud, protected by your device passcode and your Apple account
- We run no server holding your library: there is nothing of yours for us to lose
- Every network request the app makes uses HTTPS
7. How long data is kept
Your library stays until you delete it or remove the app. Shared lists stay until you stop sharing. Invite codes expire on their own. Usage statistics are kept for 13 months and then deleted.
8. Children
Reelog is rated for general audiences and asks for no personal information from anyone, at any age. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. The app shows content information from TMDB, which is not curated for children.
9. Your rights
If you are in the EU or the UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete and export your data, and to object to processing. In California the CCPA gives you comparable rights. In practice:
- Access: your library is all in the app, in front of you
- Deletion: delete the app to remove the local copy, and remove Reelog's data from iCloud in your Apple account settings. For shared lists, stop sharing. For usage statistics already collected, email us
- Export: your data travels with your Apple ID across your devices
- Objection: turn off Usage Statistics in the app's settings, or write to dimix@dimix.it
The legal basis for the usage statistics is our legitimate interest in understanding and fixing the app; for My Crew it is your consent, given by choosing to share.
10. Changes to this policy
If the app changes in a way that affects this policy, we update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
11. Contact
